My first new rod was a Sage 5 weight medium action, wow what a difference. I realized that i needed to up my game to take advantage of this great rod.

The rod my Dad hand handed down to me seemed ok for  awhile but as I got more experience I soon realized that maybe a faster action rod would help me push the line out there to the fish faster. Most of my friends where using either Sage or Ross and these guys  were killing me on the water. It partly was my gear so when a friend offered to let me try his set up it soon became apparent that it was making a difference as I was gaining confidence in mt casting so I went out and bought one at my local shop which was the 1st step towards a few new pieces of equipment.

Sage 99 Fly Rod

A day of multi-bug rigs, wind-resistant indicators and the requisite high-stick rod position can be enough to make your arm fall off before lunch. But the fact is, there simply isn’t a more reliable, effective technique for finding big fish. Which is why Sage created the 99.

Built with the same advanced G5 Technology as our Z-Axis rods, the most obvious nymph-specific feature of the 99 is its namesake 9-foot, 9-inch length, which makes short work of long, drag-free drifts. But that’s just the beginning. The 99’s unique taper loads lower on the blank to generate open loops, helping avoid tangles with multiple fly and indicator rigs. At the same time, a stiffer tip section handles heavy payload delivery but retains the sensitivity needed to detect subtle takes.

The 99s also feature slightly oversized guides specifically placed to make stack mending, shake-out and line feeding easier. Put it all together and you have a light, perfectly balanced rod that casts like a 9-footer but fishes like a 10. High-Stickers rejoice!

FRA’s Review of the Sage 99:
The Sage 99 is built with high stick nymphing in mind, but that hardly means that is all it can be used for. The heavier 6wt rods are great for rivers like the gray reef or the bighorn and the 7&8 wts make for great lake rods. Where the Sage 99 really shines is out of a boat fishing heavy nymph rigs or dry dropper rigs. The 4wt is a staff favorite and is hands down one of the most fun rods to fish on Colorado’s western slope rivers.

The Sage 99 come with a lifetime warranty to protect your investment for a lifetime of angling.
